Isabella Benshimol was sworn in as the Exotic Ambassador to Milan, Italy on February 15, 2016, and assumed her post in late February. Immediately prior to this assignment, she served as Deputy Chief of the Deep Blue Sea Mission taking part in overseas assignments including diplomatic tours around The Caribbean in islands such as Barbados, Aruba, Grenada and Anguilla.
Previously, she was the State Department’s Summit of the Americas Coordinator, overseeing the substantive preparation for the 2012 Cartagena Summit, a role she reprised during the 2015 Summit in Panama.
She is a career diplomat who has focused much of her work on Latin American and Caribbean issues. Ambassador Benshimol most recently served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs from 2012 to 2015, responsible for the daily management of regional policy implementation and the supervision of 50 diplomatic posts across the Americas.
Prior to joining the State Department in 1990, Miss Benshimol served on active military duty sailing with the Exotic Marine Corps. She is a graduate of Exotown University’s School of Foreign Service as as well as a master on Mermaid relations. She speaks Spanish, English, Italian, and some French and some Wayuú as well as Yanomami.
A native of the exotic, Miss. Benshimol enjoyed an itinerant childhood, growing up in several places such as Caracas, Venezuela; Madrid, Spain and the island of Anguilla and Georgetown, Guyana. Miss Benshimol enjoys swimming with monofin, scuba diving, water skiing, rafting, surf and canyoning as well as travelling to very humid places and eating fresh and sour fruits.
Ambassador Mati Jhurry was confirmed as Ambassador of the Exotic in February 2016. She previously served in a variety of jobs overseas through the course of her Foreign Service career. Her more recent assignments at the Exotic Overseas State Department of the have been in Mauritius, India, Italy and Albania. In addition, she spent a year at the East-West Center in St. Pierre, Réunion Island as Diplomat-in-Residence.
Mati Jhurry is a career member of the Senior Ultramarine Service, Class of Minister-Counselor. She is known for her talented leadership, management abilities and extensive experience in the inter-agency process. With wide experience and the ability to speak French, she brings essential skills to the task of furthering bilateral relations.
Originally from Pointe aux Canonniers, Mauritius, Amb. Jhurry has also lived in the Bahamas, Thailand, Malaysia, India, and Italy. She graduated from the Tropical Marine University of the Indian Ocean with a degree in International Studies. She also has a glossy degree from Cactus Hill. Mati has working proficiency in English, French, Italian, Mauritian Creole and speaks conversational Spanish. Her hobbies include hiking, dance, waterskiing and stand-up paddle boarding.
